Are people still riding the Tesla wave? Investors sure seem to be! They’re zipping towards the electric vehicle (EV) baby like there’s no tomorrow. Could it be due to the rising demand for futuristic, gas-saving cars? Or the fact that the world has turned into a Black Friday sale for growth stocks? One thing’s for sure – the competition’s picking up speed and Tesla’s gonna have to step it up a notch. So, should we throw our money at Tesla stocks? “Street Signs Asia” had two investing warriors battling it out.

Bull vs bear: The showdown begins! Meet Ross Gerber…the ideal Tesla fanboy. CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth Management, Gerber sees Tesla as the one (car) company to rule them all in the realm of sustainable transportation and energy. With their next-gen technology and ability to churn out more EVs than pretty much anyone else in the game, Gerber believes Tesla has dug themselves a fortress of safety, guaranteeing at least 10 years of staying ahead. He’s also practically drooling in anticipation of Tesla’s incoming Cybertruck, set to go into production by the end of 2023. That said, even Gerber can admit there’s some “unrelenting pressure” on Tesla’s margins, with a cutthroat EV market forcing prices to be slashed. “Bring forth the Cybertruck!”, he exclaims. Gerber’s got his sights set on the booming truck business opportunities, with Rivian, Ford, and others ready to rev their engines in hot pursuit of the “massive” market.

But wait, isn’t this a showdown? Enter our skeptical hero, senior portfolio manager Francisco Bido of Integrated Alpha Group at F/m Investments. His analytics know-no-bounds, and they’re telling him that Tesla isn’t the knight in shining armor we’re looking for. With too much red in his quant scores, he’s unhappy with the Tesla tale and thinks it’s far more dismal than charming. Yes, their first-quarter vehicle deliveries have improved and met expectations, but for Francisco, the ol’ “meet expectations” trick is tired and worn. More handshakes need to be made in the future if Tesla’s going to live up to its name. Bido strongly suggests we keep one eyebrow raised and keep an eye on the competition. He’s not alone in his concerns over Tesla’s history of overpromising and under-delivering. “Promises, promises – let’s see the delivery!”, he cries out.

But fear not, for Gerber rises to the challenge. His whimsical countenance beams as he declares Tesla a fair bet, thanks to its unique positioning in the industry and fierce growth rate potential. “Invest long term, and ye shall witness ye olde EV kingdom flourishing mightily!”, he proclaims. As the battle draws to a close, we reflect on the great Tesla debate.
