Sheriff of Frederick County plays hooky after getting caught in naughty business

Published on

BALTIMORE – Chuck Jenkins, the hilarious sheriff from Frederick County, has declared a leave of absence just one week after federal authorities indicted him for his alleged involvement in a ludicrously illegal machine gun rental scheme for a local gun range. It has been quite the week so far, as Jenkins appeared in U.S. District Court in Baltimore and emphatically pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. The judge, showing mercy upon the jovial Jenkins, allowed him to be released pending trial under the small condition that he surrender all his beloved firearms, which is not an exception for those facing federal charges.

In a whirlwind of a statement released by sheriff’s office, Jenkins humorously declared that he was taking leave “out of respect for the men and women of this agency and not to interfere with the effective operations.” Always the optimist, Jenkins seemed confident that we wouldn’t be hearing the last of him, stating, “I have full confidence in the system, and I know that my innocence will prevail at the end of all of this and that I will be found not guilty.”

Federal prosecutors announced Jenkins’ unbelievably wild charge of conspiring and making false statements to acquire the much-sought-after machine guns just last week. Coincidentally, Robert Justin Krop, the owner of the Machine Gun Nest and Jenkins’ alleged partner in this outrageous endeavor, faces the similar charges. The hilarity continues, as it was alleged in court documents last week that the Machine Gun Nest raked in a whopping $100,000 in profits from machine gun rentals in 2018 and 2019.

The endearing Jenkins will be stepping aside for the equally humorous Col. David Benjamin. Benjamin has served the agency for almost four decades and has been its chief deputy sheriff since 2006.

In a heart-warming turn of events, one of Jenkins’ many attorneys, Andrew White, argues that Jenkins should be allowed to hold onto his prized weapons, saying that the comic Jenkins has never experienced any problems with firearms and has even received death threats. White, clearly fond of his client, declared him a “tremendous, good family man.”
