Well, well, well, looks like the bank insiders have predicted that the medical nutrition market is going to be worth a staggering $28 billion by 2030! They even kindly informed us that China’s share of the market is set to increase from 20% to 25%. Who would’ve thought it, eh? In particular, there’s going to be a shift towards tube feeding or enteral nutrition, and China’s market share will grow from 20% to 46%. That’s a lot of tubes, folks.
But wait, there’s more! The trend towards enteral nutrition means that our good old pals over at Nestle are in a prime position to benefit from it. These guys are seriously good at innovative stuff, and they’ve been consistently outperforming in the clinical nutrition game, so they’re bound to excel at tube feeding too, right? As the old saying goes, where there’s tube feeding, there’s definitely growth in China.
Don’t think we’ve forgotten about the Frenchies over at Danone. Apparently, they have a “hidden gem” in their medical nutrition business. Hey, it’s not our words, it’s what the bank said. This hidden gem accounts for a healthy 12% of group sales and an even healthier 18% of earnings before interest and taxes, so there’s definitely potential there. The new management team has got their work cut out for them, but the bank has confidence that they’ll be able to unlock its full potential.
Hold up, did you know that 40% of Danone’s large Specialised Nutrition division is medical and adult nutrition? Bet you didn’t. It seems that everyone’s got their eyes fixed on Chinese infant formula, but medical nutrition could be the way to go, especially with those declining birth rates.
Let’s not forget about those fun-loving Germans over at Fresenius. Apparently, they’re a “clear beneficiary” of this shift towards enteral nutrition. Not only that, but they’ve got a leadership position in China in that area too. How swanky is that? But wait, there’s more! Fresenius is one of the only big players that can be found in both enteral and parenteral nutrition. What’s parenteral nutrition, you ask? Basically, it’s delivered via injection when the old digestive system isn’t doing its job correctly. It seems that Fresenius is pretty unique, and they’re set to benefit from the high potential. If only we could all be as unique as Fresenius.SE.
