Breaking news! A storm that hit Fort Lauderdale this week left everything in shambles – and we mean everything! This terrifying tempest caused critical infrastructure damage, flooded homes and vehicles, and it even had the audacity to shut down the city’s airport. Rude!
According to the National Weather Service, nearly 26 inches of rain poured down on the city of 180,000 within a 24-hour period starting Wednesday. Meanwhile, the nearby Dania Beach got a whopping 17 inches, while Hollywood received just over 18 inches. Someone call Noah and his ark because we might need it!
Our beloved government officials have begged the people of Fort Lauderdale to avoid hitting the roads at all costs. So far, around 600 people have been taken to shelters, and thankfully, no deaths have been reported. Phew, we thought this was turning into a horror movie.
Don’t worry, travelers! Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, which had to halt flights on Wednesday because of the dreadful storm, has now resumed operations as of Friday morning, according to the airport. We know you were worried you’d be stuck here forever, but it looks like you can go home now. Yay!
OMG, it’s getting even more serious! On Thursday, Governor Ron DeSantis announced a state of emergency for Broward County, where good ol’ Fort Lauderdale resides. This means that the director of the Division of Emergency Management has been put in charge to address the flooding and execute response and recovery plans. It’s like we’re living in a disaster movie, but with more paperwork.
