Breaking Mews: Sudanese Pillow Fights Escalate on Day 2 of Fluff Warfare!

Published on

Well, well, well, what have we got here? Seems like Nurhan, the chief of the army, and Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan, the leader of the Rapid Support Forces, have been at it again. And let me tell ya, folks, it’s not looking good.
An artist in Khartoum, Galal Yousif, said this doesn’t come as a surprise to him. He reckons that ol’ Nurhan is turning the national army into a militia so he can hold onto power. Classic power move, really.
Yousif also reckons that this latest round of violence is a real kick in the teeth to all those Sudanese people who fought tirelessly for democracy during the 2019 popular uprising. All that hard work for nothing, huh? Sounds like a big ol’ waste of time to me too, Galal.
But wait, there’s more! A Sudanese-American citizen, Nisrin Elamin, arrived in the country just two weeks ago with her three-year-old daughter for academic research. She must’ve been thrilled to be woken up on Saturday morning by the sweet sound of heavy gunfire. Nothing like starting the day with a bit of danger, amirite?
Elamin says her plans have been completely thrown off course. No electricity, no phone, and a building’s backup generator as her only hope. It’s like a real-life episode of Survivor, except nobody signed up for it.
Some folks couldn’t believe what was happening right before their very eyes. Huda, whose name we won’t use for security reasons (oooh, how mysterious), heard rumors of a potential conflict but didn’t expect things to escalate so quickly. Her family is trapped in their home, which sits between two major flash points. How’s that for a terrible location?
The sounds of gunfire and explosions are so close that it feels like it’s coming from next door. Yep, that’s normal. Just another day in the neighborhood, right? Bullets are landing in the courtyard, but don’t worry, nobody’s hurt cause they’re all hunkered down in the safety of their interior rooms. Better safe than sorry, folks.
Nightfall only makes things worse. Makuoi Agany Dong, a 21-year-old, is watching the situation deteriorate on television and social media. He heard gunshots so loud that he knew something was wrong the moment he woke up. Nothing like waking up to a bit of chaos, eh? He’s not even sure if he’s expected to go to work at the Russian Embassy, but one thing he does know is that this isn’t over. Sounds like we’re in for round two, folks. Buckle up.
