Let’s talk about the weather, shall we? This week’s forecast packs more punches than a heavyweight champion. First, we get a taste of spring… and then it gets thrown to the curb by some summery heat on Thursday and Friday. We’ll be soaring into the 80s, but thankfully our signature humidity will be missing. Thank the weather gods for small mercies.
Hold onto your hats, folks. Today, clouds from a big storm up in Canada could come clipping down, particularly in the northern half of the area. On the bright side, sunshine should make an appearance by midday. Winds from the west will be brisk, occasionally gusting at a whopping 30-35 mph. You might want to tie everything down, just in case. Afternoon temperatures will top out in the mid-to-upper 60s, so make sure you dig out those shorts from the closet.
Tonight will be clear with gradually calming northwest winds. Sounds like a perfect evening to stargaze or maybe even do a little bit of yoga. Lows will dip down to the upper 30s to mid-40s.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is shaping up to be the pick of the week. All hail, ’cause there’ll be nonstop sunshine and only a light breeze from the west. Highs are mostly stuck in the low to mid-70s, which honestly isn’t too shabby.
Tomorrow night, the skies remain clear and the winds are light. It’ll be warmer, so we’ll see lows only dropping to the upper 40s to mid-50s. Looks like you can finally put the winter blankets away.
Now pay attention, this is where it gets good. The Canadian cool air pulls a vanishing act on Thursday and suddenly we’re hit with warm surges. The skies remain mostly sunny and there’s barely a breeze as highs reach the mid-80s in most areas. Wow, talk about a heatwave!
On Friday, southwest winds build up and spike the mercury at least into the mid-80s. Reagan National Airport records show a high of 89, so let’s play the “how hot can it go” game. Skies remain mostly sunny, and fairly low humidity still makes for an okay outdoor day. You’ll have to squint against the low clouds if you want to see the Lyrid meteor shower, with potential peak around midnight. Lows on Friday will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s, so don’t forget to turn on that fan.
Hold on to your seats, because this weekend might bring us some much-needed rain. An approaching cold front could bring a decent soaking at some point between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. If we’re lucky, the bulk of the rain could come on Saturday night, leaving much of Saturday and Sunday partly sunny and breezy. But, we can’t count our chickens before they hatch. Highs reach near or past 80 on Saturday, then cool off to the mid-60s to low 70s on Sunday, with Saturday night lows in the 50s. Looks like we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.
