Get ready to have a good chuckle because I spotted something hilarious on the notated glass. There was a tiny, suspicious smudge lingering on the glass, similar to the mess that is commonly found on your car windshield when you park under a tree. One astronomer, clearly not amused, grumbled, “Birds” when asked to comment on the mess. Don’t shoot the messenger, dude.
Apparently, this isn’t an unusual occurrence as some other astronomers agreed. Michael Bolte, who’s now an ex-professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz, recalled the time he gave a tour of the Wyoming Infrared Observatory to the Governor of Wyoming in 1981. During the tour, they climbed up to the service platform and took a gander downwards. What did they find on the mirror? Loads of bird droppings all around. Talk about embarrassing. Poor Mirrior.
