First off, we have Cinneah El-Amin, or as she puts it, a former corporate slave turned an entrepreneur in the making. This 28-year-old New York City resident has had quite a journey in the banking and tech industry, but ultimately, she was sacked. And in typical Cinneah fashion, she made some sassy moves and decided to use this newfound free time to grow her own company called Flynanced.
Now, let’s dig into her salary journey. She started off as a senior project analyst with a salary of $72k at AmEx, where she accepted an initial offer for the said salary before realising she needed a pay rise to survive in the competitive city of New York. Thankfully, she doubled her rate in just two years, reaching a $130k salary as a product manager.
However, the modest Cinneah did admit that she should have done a little more research when it came to negotiating her pay. When she got bumped up to become a product development pro, her salary rose to just under six figures, which is still a pretty impressive feat. Later on, she went on to be a Technical Product Manager, earning a whopping $186k annually with a considerable $29k signing bonus.
Cinneah’s journey wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, though. She admitted to feeling nervous and jittery during negotiations, and who could blame her? Anxious Cinneah applied to about 150 jobs, and even though it felt like no one would ever accept her, she found an opening at PayPal. Though it was a grueling experience, one thing became clear: she had all the experience and skills the position required. This led to Cinneah telling the recruiter that they should bump up her $186k offer to a cool $197k. Since she’s smarter than the average bear, she negotiated a $29k signing bonus to make up for the bonus she was due to forfeit by leaving Mastercard.
Fast forward to now, Cinneah’s off to pursue greatness and grow her own business, and we can’t wait to see where this no-nonsense businesswoman ends up.
