The Troubles were one heck of a kerfuffle in Northern Ireland, and even after 25 years of peace, the effects still seem to linger. But guess what happened last week on Good Friday? Residents from both sides got together and formed a human chain connecting their two neighborhoods – talk about having each other’s backs!
As Northern Ireland commemorates the 25th anniversary of that peace deal, the Good Friday Agreement, the West Belfast connection was a testament to the progress made so far. Not to mention how the two communities have slowly realized just how much they have in common – better late than never, right?
Now, this was no ordinary celebration, as it involved some VIP guests! President Biden flew into Northern Ireland to honor the anniversary and have a powwow with the leaders of Northern Ireland’s five political parties. And hold onto your hats, because next week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of Britain, King Charles III, and good ol’ Bill Clinton (who helped negotiate that very agreement) will all be visiting Belfast to join the party!
