Oh boy, time to talk about ye olde bonus kerfuffle between two high-level housing officials in Washington D.C.! So, Councilmember Robert C. White Jr. shows up at a hearing, armed with questions about a $41,250 bonus that Brenda Donald, head honcho at the D.C. Housing Authority, received in January. Did someone say drama?
Now, our pal Brenda isn’t too eager to spill the beans on this bonus business. She tells Robert that it’s between her and the housing authority’s board of commissioners. But wait, there’s a plot twist! A bunch of peeps who used to be on the board say there was never a full board vote on the bonus. Gasp!
The HUD report comes into play, mentioning that Brenda’s salary goes over the limit but gets paid with non-federal funds. However, they’re not so pleased with her lack of experience (ouch). At this point, Brenda insists that she’s done what she was supposed to at the DCHA and feels that her bonus is hunky-dory.
But remember that pesky occupancy rate? It went down instead of up during Brenda’s watch, dropping to the lowest level among large public housing authorities nationwide. Yikes!
To top it all off, Brenda also gave bonuses to other execs at the agency last year. Her own bonus was 15% of her salary – pretty juicy. In the end, Robert ain’t happy with her refusal to dish on the bonus details, but the good people of Washington D.C. will surely keep an eye on this housing hullabaloo.
