Well folks, looks like the U.S. government is temporarily putting the kibosh on mifepristone, a popular drug used for abortions. In other words, they’re making it even harder for women to access something that should be their right. Ain’t that just grand?
According to U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar, if these restrictions go into place, it’ll be a real hootenanny. Not only will it mess with the pharmaceutical industry, but it’ll also make it super tough for women to get their hands on the drug. Good one, government.
Ms. Prelogar also pointed out that this is the first time a court has repealed conditions on the FDA’s drug approval for “safety” reasons. Must be nice to just get up and change your mind like that, huh?
Just so ya know, mifepristone is the cat’s meow when it comes to ending pregnancies in the US. It’s a two-part process with another drug called misoprostol, and is used by 50% of people who have abortions. Misoprostol is cool though, it’s still available in all its stand-alone abortion drug glory.
The Justice Department is saying that this ruling will go into effect on Saturday at 12 a.m. CT. Because if there’s one thing the government needs to focus on right now, it’s making it harder to access healthcare. Bravo, guys. Bravo.
