Harpers Ferry: Your Choo-Choo Charming Weekend Escape from the DC Madness

Published on

Feeling nostalgic? Want to relive those good old days where your morning consisted of breakfast with a side of charm? Look no further than a bed and breakfast (B&B) in Harpers Ferry. You’ll feel like you’ve teleported back to the 19th century (or even earlier) with the historic lodgings available in Lower Town. Plus, you’ll get to experience themed rooms that would make even a hopeless romantic swoon. And if you’re lucky, the morning fog from the Potomac and the Shenandoah will greet you with open arms and a picturesque view.
But be warned, the further up Washington Street you stay, the farther uphill you’ll have to walk. Unless you’re trying to burn off all those carbs from breakfast, your best bet is to find a B&B close to Lower Town. Trust us, your legs will thank you later.
Now let’s talk about the Town’s Inn, where even the innkeeper’s name is a homophone. Karan Townsend, our beloved innkeeper, has quite the love affair with Harpers Ferry. She’s traveled from Salzburg to Abu Dhabi and yet, this charming place has won her heart over. She wants all her guests to feel like they’re at home, just like how she felt at a backpacker lodge in the Austrian Alps. And if you’re not staying at the inn, that’s okay too, because you can pop in and join Karan for some trail mix, tea, and some good old reminiscing.
If you’re tired of doilies taking over your life, then Stonehouse B&B is the perfect escape for you. And they mean it when they say it’s doily-free (thank god). You can enjoy a comfortable stay in one of their historical rooms without feeling like you’re being suffocated by grandma’s decor. However, these rooms can get a bit pricey on weekends, starting at $175/night. But hey, priceless experiences don’t come cheap.
Finally, we have the Carriage House at Carrot Top Cottage. We don’t know about you, but the name alone has us sold. Who wouldn’t want to spend a night at a place that sounds like it’s owned by Bugs Bunny’s nemesis? This place may not have themed rooms, but it has a cute and cozy feel that is sure to put a smile on your face. So ditch your Airbnb plans and come enjoy some good old-fashioned hospitality in Harpers Ferry.
