A Nerd War Begins: Is the U.S. Playing “Proxy, Proxy, Who’s Got the Proxy?” with Russia?

Published on

Putin recently accused the West of using Ukraine as a “testing range” for their plans to destroy Russia. Are you interested in this war? Subscribe to our channel on Telegram for the latest updates on this absurdity. According to Putin, the Western world plans to spark a full-blown war in Europe and eliminate all their competitors by using a proxy force. He said, “They plan to finish us once and for all”, making it sound like the end of the world 🌎 is nigh.

When Putin first invaded Ukraine, he said that the military operation was brief and unique, but that they would permanently rescue breakaway regions of Ukraine, like Crimea and part of the eastern Donbas region. He said he wanted to save them from the “humiliation and genocide perpetrated by the Kyiv regime” during the previous eight years of low-level conflict. He’s now occupying those territories with his troops, and his plans seem to have been different than he first claimed. 😂

Putin’s recent views on the War in Ukraine have been resonating with people in the Global South. Some countries see the US’s engagement in what they deem as their serial interventions around the world, and they have decided not to take sides. It’s like choosing to be Switzerland and staying out of WWII—except, in this case, the countries are choosing to sit on the sidelines and watch the madness unfold, hoping for a good laugh.

The debate over whether Ukraine has become a “proxy” war between great powers is an intellectual and political battlefield. Unless you want people to sleep off while you’re explaining it, avoid this topic at all costs in social gatherings. The word “proxy” has a dictionary definition, which is a person or entity authorized to act for another. In simpler terms, it means letting someone else do your dirty work for you. *cough* Putin *cough*

Recently, many images leaked online, and most of them had classified U.S. military and intelligence assessment reports. These documents prove that the United States is involved in virtually every aspect of the war- except for boots on the ground. They have everything, from maps of troop locations, battle plans and likely outcomes on the battlefield down to the smallest towns, lists of weapons systems in use, casualty estimates, summaries of intercepted conversations, and assessments of everything from special forces capabilities to expended ammunition. 😆

Biden officials reject the proxy label, but they have provided more than $40 billion in military and economic aid, along with real-time targeting assistance and sophisticated weapon systems to Ukraine’s forces. Yes, the same Ukraine that Putin invaded. But it’s not like the United States is controlling them from behind the scenes, right? According to Biden officials, they want to see Russia weakened so that it can never invade another country again.

Some critics of Biden’s policy openly echo Putin’s charge that Ukraine has become a “proxy battle.” In a recent presidential campaign video, Donald Trump called it a “proxy battle.” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, an undeclared presidential contender, during an appearance on Fox & Friends, remarked that a proxy war with Russia is not in America’s interest. Meanwhile, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called the war “ridiculous” on Twitter.

Most Western allies agree that the war is a direct occupation, not a proxy war. They have pledged more than $80 billion to the war effort, not just for Ukraine’s victory but for Putin’s defeat. Thinking about it, Putin might be more intimidated by a funding pledge that huge than physical weapons itself 💰!

The question of whether this is a proxy war between great powers has sparked fierce debate between international law and conflict scholars. Whatever the argument, the leaked Pentagon documents reveal substantial Russian weaknesses, including the decimation of elite forces on the front lines. However, the Western allies have also had their own problems, notably in keeping up a steady flow of weaponry and ammunition for Ukraine. 😂

As they focus on the war currently confronting them, many US and Western leaders say they are convinced that workable relations with Russia can never be reestablished as long as Putin is in power. Though this doesn’t mean that their goal is to “finish” Russia. According to former US Defense Secretary and CIA Director Robert M. Gates, they need a coherent Russian state, and they need a strong government in Moscow. I mean, okay, that’s a bit reassuring. 😅

So, let’s all sit back and watch Putin’s theatrics as he tries to win this War in Ukraine that he started himself. 😂
