Montgomery planning board investigation: ‘Not a whiff’ of workplace hostility

Published on

Well, well, well, the results are in, folks! The National Capital Park and Planning Commission has finally wrapped up their investigation into allegations of a toxic work environment. And you’ll never guess what they found – drumroll please – NO EVIDENCE of any misogyny or hostility! What a plot twist! The investigation even went so far as to clear former Commission Chair Robert Anderson’s name, proving that he wasn’t the one stirring up trouble. Anderson was quoted as saying, “I’m proud of what I accomplished at the Commission.” Yes, Robert, we’re sure you brought a lot of joy to the employees who were worried about drinking in the workplace!

But wait, hold the phone, the verdict isn’t completely squeaky clean. Apparently, the Commission did find some “leadership issues” on the planning board that may have made employees feel unstable. Uh oh! To fix that problem, they’ve recommended more sensitivity training and the creation of a centralized public affairs department. It’s always handy to have a department specifically designed to deal with public affairs. They can be the scapegoat for all the PR nightmares!

Now, let’s back up a bit and remember how this whole thing got started. Anderson, the Commission Chair, was first caught sharing a few drinks in his office after hours. In his defense, it was probably just happy hour, but hey, rules are rules. He apologized and removed the alcohol from his office. Yay, problem solved, right? Wrong! Apparently, that wasn’t enough drama for the Commission. Shortly thereafter, rumors swirled about Anderson’s misogynistic comments and a hostile work environment. Well, we can all breathe a sigh of relief now that they’ve put those rumors to rest. Nothing like a little office gossip to spice up the workweek!

Hold up, there’s more! If you thought this was just a simple case of one man getting called out, then think again, folks. This scandal eventually led to the firing of the Commission’s director, Gwen Wright, after she spoke out in defense of Anderson. Talk about taking one for the team! But what a team it was! After all that drama, the entire planning board was ousted by the county council. Seems like the board was really good at planning for anything but their own job security.

So, what’s the moral of this story, you ask? Well, we’re not entirely sure. Maybe it’s that you should always keep your champagne bottles locked up at work. Or maybe it’s that office drama isn’t just a thing in the movies – it’s real life, people! One thing is for sure, though – the Commission may be in the clear now, but they better watch their backs for any more scandals lurking around the corner. As for us, we’ll be kicking back with our popcorn, waiting for the next juicy twist in this drama-filled tale.
