Manchester City’s Reign of Soccer: Will it Ever End or Are We Stuck in This Forever?

Published on

Well, well, well, it seems like Arsenal was expecting an easy ride to the Premier League title? Sorry to burst your bubble, but that ship has sailed. It’s City’s era, baby! And it has been for a while now. As long as Guardiola is patrolling the sidelines and the Abu Dhabi moneybags are occupying the executive seats, Arsenal and any other team hoping to challenge for the title will be barking up the wrong tree. So, buckle up, buttercups, and get ready to watch City reign supreme!

Liverpool won the league with 99 points once, yes, ONCE! And they had to pull off something almost impossible to do it. So, Arsenal’s hopes of reaching 90 points and earning the title are about as likely as Donald Trump admitting he lost the election. It’s just not happening, folks.

The Invincibles thought they were the bees’ knees when they won the title unbeaten in 2003-04. But that was then, and this is now, darling. Even if Arsenal accumulates as many points as their so-called greatest-ever side, it still might not be enough. The bar has been raised, and guess who’s responsible for that? The modern City, baby!

So, who will stop City’s reign of terror, you ask? Well, Newcastle United might fancy themselves at becoming champions one day, but they better strap in for the long haul. It could be years before they reap the fruits of their super-rich ownership. Manchester United will fancy themselves as contenders, but the truth is, they’re just pretenders. So don’t hold your breath, Arsenal fans, because City is here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future.

The only team that has managed to stay within 10 points of Guardiola’s team in any single title race so far is Liverpool. So we have only two possible scenarios that can stand in City’s way of continued domination: Guardiola’s wanderlust returning or the long and complex investigation into the club’s alleged financial scandals. But let’s not hold our breath on either of those scenarios because it’s highly unlikely.

Let’s give credit where credit is due; Arsenal has had a brilliant season so far. They’ve surprised everyone, even themselves, with their run at the top of the table. But it doesn’t matter because it won’t be enough. Losing to City twice in the season means that they don’t worry Guardiola’s team in the same way that Liverpool did. Sorry, not sorry, Gunners.

De Bruyne was unstoppable during last night’s game, according to Guardiola, and we agree. The way he was running through Arsenal’s defence, you’d think he had superpowers. He epitomises City’s seen-it-all-before brilliance, and that’s just down-right scary for the opposition. Oh, and did we mention that De Bruyne loves big nights under the floodlights? So prepare yourselves, football world, this man is on a mission.

Arsenal’s lead has been whittled down to two points, and they’ve just lost to City 4-1. Yes, you read that right, 4-1! And City still has a couple of games in hand. The Gunners have been reminded that City might be an even bigger challenge than their rivals from the past. Winning the league at the Etihad? Yeah, good luck with that, Arsenal. It’s like going into a gunfight armed with only a knife.
